The memorial to the victims of the UTA DC10 attack will be opened in November 16th, 2011 at 9:30 am in the city of N’Djamena. The UT772 fly took off from N’Djamena before exploding in the air, above the Ténéré desert, in Niger. This memorial is raised on the Association of the victims’ families of the UTA DC10 attack initiative, member of the French Association of Victims of Terrorism –AfVT.org.
The ceremony will take place in the presence of Mr. Issa Adjideil, Mayor of N’Djamena, His Excellency, Mr. Michel Reveyrand, the French Ambassador in Chad, Mr. Guillaume Denoix de Saint Marc, President of the “Families of the UTA DC10 Attack” and managing director of the French Association of victims of Terrorism –AfVT.org and many Chadian and Cameroonian victims’ families.
This memorial is bound with the three other ones: UTA DC10 stele in the Père Lachaise cemetery, in Paris (where the UT772 fly was supposed to land on), the Brazzaville memorial (first take off of the fly) and the one raised in 2007 in the Ténéré desert, in the plane wreckage center.
The Association of the victims’ families of the UTA DC10 attack achieved the memorials in Ténéré and in N’Djamena, and is working on Brazzaville’s. The UTA DC10 foundation, that was created through the negotiations with Libya and that succeeded in recognizing the liability of Libya in this attack and got reparations for victims from these negotiations, has financed these buildings and works.
ABOUT THE ATTACK: the UTA DC10 attack is the most bloody terrorist attack against France. The 170 passengers and the crew from 18 different nationalities, died in the explosion of the plane that occurred in September 19th, 1989 at 2:59 pm, French time. Among them, 54 French died, 48 Republic of Congo citizens, 25 Chadians, 9 Italians, 8 North-Americans, 5 Cameroonians, 4 English, 3 Democratic Republic of Congo, 3 Canadians, 2 Center-Africans, 2 Malians, 2 citizens from Switzerland, 1 Algerian, 1 Belgium, 1 Bolivian, 1 Greek, 1 Moroccan, 1 Senegalese.
