This beautiful project to remember and pay tribute to victims of terrorism started as an initiative by Jeannette Warke and the victims of Derry in 2002. The history of the project was told directly in the words of Ms. Warke in the congress held by NAVT in June 2011 in Madrid, where she participated as a speaker. Thus, Derry, Claudy, Buncrana and now Madrid are the cities where the glass window has been put into place, thanks to the cooperation and effort made by victims’ associations and the collective work carried out by them and other institutions belonging to NAVT.
Among those present, there were Fernando Blasco’s family members, who was one of the two Spanish people killed in the attack that took place in Omagh on the 15th of August, 1998. Fernando’s sister, Lucrecia, participated in the event by sharing moving words in memory of those no longer with us. Ana Botella, the Lord Mayor of Madrid; Sonia Ramos, general director of the Department for Support for Victims at the Ministry of the Interior; María Lozano, director of NAVT and Cayetano González, director of the International Observatory for the Victims of Terrorism, also attended the event.
This moving tribute was one of the activities carried out by the International Observatory in the 8th Seminar on Information, Victims and Terrorism that was held in Madrid last 21st and 22nd of March.
