“The March 11 attack on Spanish and other citizens was an attack against all Europeans, an attack against the basic principles on which the European Union is founded” (José Manuel Durao Barroso, President of the European Commission).
A little after the terrible attacks in Madrid, the European Union established March 11 as European day in remembrance of the victims of terrorism.
“The voice of the victims” was the official presentation of the European Network of Victims of Terrorism. And so it should be. The first act of a European network created by and for the victims of terrorism should start with the most important testimony, with the voice of the victims. Spanish, Dutch, French voices… all victims of terrorism, came together to transmit their experiences to the numerous public in attendance.
The unanimous support of all those present for the victims of terrorism, the victims’ experiences and the desire for collaboration between all European organizations has since provided constant encouragement for all those involved in this project
